The Undenominational Schools
In 1870 there was a movement in Denby Dale to build a Board school in the village. A committee was formed and money raised by public subscription. This was supplemented by a government grant and the result was that building began in 1872, to provide infant and junior undenominational schools in the centre of the village. The schools opened in September 1874. The Hands on History Group researched every aspect of this development, from fundraising to the architect and eventually the details of everyday life in the schools.
