Back to The Undenominational Schools

2 Building

The cornerstone of the building was laid in August 1872 and the committee hoped it would be complete before Christmas. The building took much longer than anticipated and the school was not opened until September 1874. They had obtained the services of a nationally known architect, Edward Hughes. Most of the tradesmen involved were local. This section includes original architect’s plans held in the National Archives at Kew, researched by a member of the Hands on History group.
