In the 1870s Denby Dale was closely connected to Barnsley for social and commercial reasons. This section contains 8 pages from the edition of 3rd August 1872, which was the date on which the bottle was buried. A copy of this newspaper was placed inside the bottle, however it didn’t survive the 150 years of burial. Secondly, this section contains the edition of 10th August 1872, which provides a verbatim account of the ceremony to lay the cornerstone. Lastly, this section contains extracts from the edition of 3rd January 1874, which was the official opening of the school. The newspapers are full of advertisements of all types, giving insights into everyday life in the period.
