The Railway in Denby Dale
Denby Dale station opened on 1st July 1850. Its name was then Denby Dale & Cumberworth station. At that time, and for the next 30 years, trains crossed the original wooden viaduct, to be replaced by the current stone viaduct in 1880. Our collection of historic photos shows both viaducts, the station in its heyday with 2 tracks, 2 platforms, staff and station buildings, but also the later decline.
